ROULETTERoulette is arguably one of the easiest casino table games around and an internationally recognized symbol of glamour, excitement and the high-rolling lifestyle. The object of the game is to pick the winning number that will appear in the Roulette wheel. You can also bet combinations of numbers or choose the color or whether it is odd or even. THE HISTORY OF ROULETTE No one is quite sure where the game of roulette was born. Some point to the early 17th century in France and credit its creation to a French mathematician Blaise Pascal, who was known for his work in the field of probability. Roulette is a French term for “small wheel.” Other historians believe that the game was developed in China and was brought to Europe by Monks who traded with the Chinese merchants. Regardless of its origins, the French are credited with developing the game which eventually evolved into the roulette games we are accustomed to nowadays. In 1842, Francois and Luis Blanc established the first casinos in Monte Carlo where, according to 'legend', it is said that in exchange for their souls, the devil shared with them the secret of Roulette. Continuing along this sinister historical interpretation, the two men chose to use the numbers 1 to 36, whose sum when added together totals 666. Of course, large portions of these stories are difficult to prove, but the game has always had an aura of the supernatural associated with it. Not long later Roulette arrived in the US, sometime in the mid 1800s. The game was initially popular with those who made their living by relying on luck, patience, and superstition. Western miners and gold speculators embraced the game and it became particularly popular in the west during the historical Gold Rush period. Now, every casino in the world has a Roulette Wheel. Roulette’s success lies in the fact that it is easy to play and suspenseful. |
